Social Responsibility

Explor conducts Environmental Assessments for each of its projects in order to plan and execute its operations using sustainable methods. Explor consults with local community groups, regulators and the scientific community to ensure that its projects meet local requirements and are in full compliance with regulations. Explor hires only those prime contractors with effective environmental policies, and monitors its contractors for compliance with those policies.
Over the past several decades, Explor has formed positive and lasting relationships with over forty different aboriginal groups within Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories. Each of these relationships is different in scope, but they are all built in an open, honest, collaborative and positive way with the aim of creating mutual benefit to Explor and to each respective aboriginal group. Explor has often provided funding for youth programs within aboriginal communities where we are active. Recent examples include Sahtu Hockey, Piikani First Nations Novice and Atom Hockey, and entering an Explor team in the Yellowknife Oldtimers Hockey Association Tournament with several of our aboriginal partners from the Sahtu region.
Explor is an active member of the CSEG, SEG, CAGC and EAGE, and has collaborated with CAPP on a number of industry-specific initiatives. We provide financial support and active participation in a number of industry events through good times and through downturns in our industry. These include industry conventions, the CSEG Doodlebug Golf Tournament, the Oilmen's Golf Tournament, the CSEG Ski Spree, and the CSEG Doodlespiel. For many years, Explor has made a point of hiring summer students contemplating a career in the geophysical industry.

Explor has developed many important business relationships with best-in-class service providers in our industry. These relationships allow us secure supply of goods and services at competitive rates during our industry's busy times, and they provide our industry partners with some measure of security of demand during industry downturns.
Explor implements the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle of continuous improvement in its daily operations, resulting in continuous improvement of our services and our internal efficiency. Explor operates in a very open way, where our employees, consultants and contractors are active participants in the quality improvement cycle. As such, our employees and contractors are constantly challenged to identify opportunities to improve our operations. This has resulted in an extremely stable, lean and efficient organization operating well above normal operating standards for our industry sector.
Explor donates a large amount of money to charity every year, even through industry downturns. Recent charitable donations include the Alberta Children's Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre.
